One person's masterpiece is another person's monstrousity. Unless you are very close to the person and have a clear guide from them as to what kind of art they like, as in: "Gosh, I adore that painting, and it would look fabulous on our bedroom wall", I'd steer clear - perhaps in favour of something less risky, like art-based notepads, calendars and the like.
