I have night lights throughout my house and I hate to throw one away when the light cover breaks, which happens often Sad. I have had drawers full of broken night lights that I simply couldn’t bring myself to throw away. I started looking for ways to recycle the broken ones so that I could reuse them. I had a ton of shells laying all over the house and I remember seeing a shell night light before. So, DING! a light went off in my head, I bet I could make my own. I did just that and it was so cute. I found they make wonderful gifts, my mother in law still has one I made her over a year ago. It’s very easy to make and you will be surprised how beautiful they are. Here’s how I did it:

Items Needed:

  • Plain Night Light – flat base ones are the easiest to attach to
  • Super glue
  • Large shell – size of shell depends on size of night light you have
  • Emory board – cheap one you would use for your nails

How I did it:

Remove light bulb from night light. If you are using a broken night light, make sure the surface is clear of all the glue and any remnants left by previous light cover. Evaluate your shell. Decide how you want it to sit, ensuring it is equally balanced top to bottom. Place it on the nightlight to get a look of how you want it to sit. Once you have decided how you want it to sit, take the emory board and make sure the place on the shell that will attach to the light is smooth with no rough edges. You want a smooth place to apply your glue and attach to the light base. (You can also get pass this step if you use thick glue which will hold all the shell crevices securely.) Next, apply glue to the top flat part of the base of the night light and attach the shell. Hold for about a minute, allowing it to dry and adhere together.

Once the shell is attached, you can put the light bulb back in. You are done!! You have quite a unique and attractive nightlight. For the box, grab a small box. Fill the box with crumpled paper, this will ensure the light doesn’t move around or get broken during transportationto the person you are giving it to. Carefully place nightlight in box and wrap. There you have it, a gift ready for that special person.
